CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Eric Hicks captured five awards, including team Most Valuable Player Honors, at the University of Cincinnati postseason awards banquet.
Hicks, who was the team's second-leading scorer and leader in rebounding (9.7) and blocks (3.4), was also the recipient of the Oscar Robertson Award, which recognizes dedication and commitment as well as on--court accomplishments, and the Bearcats' Defensive Player of the Year Award.
The 6-6 senior from Greensboro, N.C., was honored for leading UC in rebounding and received the WXIX-Excellence Award.
Chadd Moore, who overcame a chronic back injury to make steady contributions as a sixth man, was presented the Ball of Courage Award. The 6-2 senior from Huntsville, Ala. was forced to give up the sport during the 2004-05 season but returned last fall to help the team.
Connor Barwin, a tight end on the UC football team who joined the basketball squad in January, was named Most Improved Player. The 6-4 freshman from Hazel Park, Michigan became the sixth man to the front line.
Devan Downey, the 5-10 freshman from Chester, S.C. who took over the point guard duties, won the Assists Award after leading the team with his 4.3 average. James White, the 6-7 senior from Washington, D.C., was recognized for having the team's top free throw percentage.
The Bearcats compiled a 21-13 record in 2005-06 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NIT.
