CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Enrique Bayata (Mexico City, Mexico Ulsa/Mexico City), a 2005 graduate of UC, will compete in the 50, 100, and 200 backstroke for his native country of Mexico at the Central America Games.
The games, held in Columbia July 17th through July 25th, will consist of 14 Central American countries, including Mexico,Venuzela, and the Caribbean nations.
Bayata has been training at UC with current Bearcat swim coach, Monty Hopkins. Bayata also served as a volunteer assistant coach during the 2005-06 season.
This will be Bayata's first Central America Games. Competetors in the Central America Games will have the chance to move on to compete in the Pan American Games later in 2006, with the opportunity to compete in the Olympic Games in 2008.
"I will do whatever it takes to make the team better," Bayata commented. "Competing in the Olympics is my ultimate goal but right now, I want to win a medal for Mexico."
