CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The University of Cincinnati will begin preparations for the 2006 football season--their second in the BIG EAST Conference--on Sunday (Aug. 6).
Head coach Mark Dantonio will welcome 105 players to his third UC preseason football camp when the Bearcats report beginning at noon on Sunday. The players will be involved in a series of orientation meetings on Sunday afternoon and evening. The schedule gets busier on Monday with position meetings during the morning. The team's first practice on the field is Monday at 3:30 p.m.
The team will have one-a-day sessions in partial uniforms at 10 a.m. on Wednesday through Friday. Tuesday's practice will be held at 3:40 p.m. The Bearcats will have their first full-contact practices on Saturday at 9 a.m. and again at 4:40 p.m. The team will have a single practice on Sunday before departing for their preseason training camp at the Higher Ground Conference Center in West Harrison, Ind. on Monday. The team will conduct a two-a-day immediately upon arrival at Higher Ground on Monday.
The pace at practice will be brisk as the coaching staff prepares the Bearcats for their second season in the BIG EAST Conference. UC has 44 lettermen and 19 starters returning from last year's team.
"We were a young and inexperienced football team in 2005 and it showed," Dantonio observed. "This is not the case this year. We have experienced depth at just about every position.
"There will continue to be opportunities for young players to impact the future of our program," the coach added. "Consequently, with that opportunity will come responsibility."
