, - The Nancy Hamant Academics Center was officially dedicated in a private ceremony on August 3 in the .

Named for Faculty Athletics Representative Dr. Nancy R. Hamant, the gives student-athletes a variety of ways to fulfill their classwork needs. Housed on the fifth floor of the , the center includes a study room with 34 work areas, 14 tutoring rooms, five group meeting rooms and a 71-station computer lab.

Hamant, in her 21st year as faculty representative, holds three degrees. She received a bachelor's in Arts & Sciences in 1957, added her master's in Education in 1961and earned her PhD from the in 1967.

She joined the UC faculty in 1964 and is currently an Associate Professor and Coordinator of Professional Experiences in the . A member of the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Committee, Athletics Policy and Planning Committee and a liaison with the NCAA and BIG EAST Conference, Hamant is a former president of the UC Alumni Association.

Hamant and her husband, Tom, are George Smith Society Members and dedicated season-ticket holders. The Hamants made a substantial gift to the project and plan gift from their estate, establishing the Nancy R. and Thomas H. Hamant endowment fund.
