- The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team has been chosen to finish eighth in the BIG EAST's National Division, as voted by the league's coaches.
UC, which finished the 2005 season with a 3-11-4 overall record and a 1-8-2 mark in BIG EAST play, returns 16 letterwinners and nine starters. Sophomore Jenn Johannigman (, /Seton) and senior Becky Imhoff (/McNicholas), UC's leading scorers, are back in an attempt to lead the Bearcats to the BIG EAST Tournament.
Defending BIG EAST champion Notre Dame, which plays at UC on Friday, Sept. 22, is tabbed to win the National Division, while was chosen to capture the American Division crown.
The Bearcats open their exhibition season on Thursday, Aug. 17, at the Akron Westfield Cup against the Zips at 8 p.m. The home opener is set for Friday, Aug. 25, against regional rival . Kickoff at Gettler Stadium is set for 7 p.m. UC's conference opener is Wednesday, Sept. 13 at 8 p.m. at in a match that will be nationally televised on Fox Soccer Channel.
