The men's soccer team opens its exhibition season tonight at IUPUI. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Kuntz Stadium.
The Bearcats were chosen to finish third in the BIG EAST Red Division in the preseason coaches' poll. Senior forward Omar Cummings (Old Harbour, Jamaica/Cincinnati State), the preseason BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year, and the rest of the squad will push for a BIG EAST Championship in just their second season in the league.
UC finished 10-7-2 overall last season with a 6-3-2 mark in conference play. Head coach Hylton Dayes, the 2003 Conference Coach of the Year, enters his sixth season at the helm of the Bearcats.
The Jaguars, led by 12th-year head coach Steve Franklin, finished the 2005 season with a 5-11-1 overall record and a 1-5-0 mark in Mid-Continent Conference action.
The Bearcats and Jaguars last squared off in the 2004 regular-season opener in , with IUPUI knocking off UC, 2-1.
