, - Junior Kenny Anaba (, /Worthington Christian) scored in the 51st minute, leading the men's soccer team to a 1-0 win against IUPUI at Kuntz Stadium on Monday (Aug. 14) in the exhibition opener for both squads.

Anaba, a third team All-BIG EAST selection in 2005, beat three defenders in the IUPUI box and rifled a shot to the far post past Jaguar keeper Peter Brasovan for the game-winner.

Senior Mike Vessells (, /Turpin) and junior John-Michael Boggs (, /) combined for the shutout. Vessells made one save while Boggs added four stops for the Bearcats.

UC outshot the Jaguars, 18-11, in the first meeting between the teams since IUPUI topped the Bearcats, 2-1, in the 2004 regular-season opener.

will travel to , on Thursday, Aug. 17, for the IPFW Soccer Showcase. The Bearcats will square off against at 6 p.m. in the first match of the showcase from IPFW's Hefner Soccer Complex.
