, -- Freshman Melissa Bigg (, /Acton) scored in regulation and converted all four penalty kicks during a sudden death shootout, claiming the 2006 Westfield Insurance Cup on Saturday night at Lee Jackson Field.

The Bearcats went 2-0 to win the tournament title, knocking off host , 2-1, in the opener on Thursday. Sophomore Jenn Johannigman (, /Seton) and senior Kate Norton (Rector, / Central Catholic) were named the Offensive and Defensive MVPs, respectively. The Bearcats placed four on the all-tournament team, including Johannigman, Norton, sophomore Kim Sykes (, /Sycamore) and senior Becky Imhoff (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas).

Just moments into the second half, Bigg took a pass from sophomore Chelsea Kindschuh (/Lakota East) and buried her first collegiate goal, giving UC a 1-0 lead. The lead was short-lived, however, as answered just over 10 minutes later when Nicole Amador netted the equalizer for the Raiders.

The teams played 50 more minutes of scoreless soccer before deciding the contest on penalty kicks. UC's first two shooters, Johannigman and Kindschuh, converted their attempts and freshman keeper Andrea Kaminski (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) made a spectacular diving save on WSU's second attempt. The door was opened for the Bearcats and when Wright State's third shooter missed, sophomore Kristin May (Hudson, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) and senior Ana Farmer (Renfrewshire, Scotland/Paisley Grammar) calmly buried their shots, securing the tourney title for UC.

"It's only preseason, but this is what we are gong to build on," said head coach Meridy Glenn. "It's a great feeling. If we stay positive and keep improving our game, then who knows what is going to happen."

The Bearcats will kick off the regular season at home against regional rival on Friday, Aug. 25, at 7 p.m. at Gettler Stadium. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under.
