WEST HARRISON, Ind. - After spending time over the weekend visiting with family and enjoying Paramount's Kings Island, the University of Cincinnati football team completed its first two-a-day practice of the week on Monday. Under sunny skies at Higher Ground Conference Center, Cincinnati worked for two hours in the morning session and followed by a two-hour practice in shells in the evening.

"We are staying healthy and that is the most important thing," said Head Coach Mark Dantonio. "We are trying to put this team into as many game situations as we can. We ran our first defense for 20 straight plays today, simulating a long drive and having to go back on the field after a quick turnover."

Unable to declare a starter in the hotly contested quarterback race, Dantonio is looking forward to Tuesday's scrimmage.

"Tomorrow is another major scrimmage as far as we are concerned," he said. "We try to put a timetable on things and establish who is going, but at the same time we don't want to omit somebody if they are doing a good job. Dustin Grutza is the returning starter and Nick Davila is having a good camp. All of the quarterbacks can do good things.

"If you watched the first half of today's scrimmage, (Nick) Davila looked very sharp. Dustin (Grutza) was good, too. Nick deserves consideration to play with the first unit. I want to see what he can do tomorrow (Tuesday)."

Tuesday morning's scrimmage is scheduled to include special teams as preparations for the Sept. 2 home opener vs. Eastern Kentucky continue. The final opportunity to catch the Bearcats before the season is Sunday, August 27 at Meet the Team Night.
