SETTING THE SCENE: The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team faces the first road contests of the regular season when it takes the short trips to local rivals Miami (Ohio) and Xavier. The Bearcats take on the RedHawks on Friday, Sept. 1 at 5 p.m. and the Musketeers on Sunday, Sept. 3 at 6 p.m. UC is off to a 1-0-1 start and has yet to allow a goal in a win over Kentucky and tie against No. 20 Purdue.
STORYLINES:
The Bearcats have not allowed a goal in their first two matches for the first time since the 1996 season. They are unbeaten after two matches for the first timce since 2003.
FreshmanAndrea Kaminski is the reigning BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week after making five saves in the shutout win over Kentucky.
UC is 14-9-3 in road openers and has not won since 2002.
The Bearcats have won 19 of 23 matches against their crosstown rival Musketeers and have won the last three played at Xavier.
UC is 6-4-1 against the RedHawks and 1-2-1 in Oxford.
Head coach Meridy Glenn is in her 24th season at the helm of the Bearcats and owns a 243-164-33 career record.
UC was picked to finish eighth in the National Division in the BIG EAST preseason coaches poll after finishing their first season in the BIG EAST at 3-14-4 overall and 1-8-2 in conference play.
MU is 1-1-0 on the season following a 2-1 win at Morehead State and a 3-0 loss to Louisville at home. The RedHawks are coming off a 9-9 season which saw them finish fourth in the MAC. Senior Kathleen Vistica has posted a goal and an assist.
XU is 0-2-0 after losses to Loyola Chicago (2-1) and Ohio State (2-0). The Musketeers, 9-7-2 last season, play at Bowling Green on Friday.
KAMINSKI HONORED:
Freshman keeper Andrea Kaminski started her career off right by making five saves in UC's season-opening 1-0 win over Kentucky. For her efforts she was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week on Aug. 28. Kaminski registered 44 career shutouts at Noblesville (Ind.) High School and has yet to allow a goal in her Bearcats career.
APPROACHING MILESTONE:
In 2001 Head Coach Meridy Glenn became the first female in NCAA Division I history to earn 200 career women's soccer victories. Now in her 24th season, she is just seven short of reaching 250 career wins. She is the second-winningest female coach in NCAA history and among the top 15 all-time in career wins.
UC TABBED TO FINISH EIGHTH IN BIG EAST NATIONAL DIVISION:
The Bearcats were picked to finish eighth in the BIG EAST's National Division by the conference's coaches. UC finished third in the Red Division last season The Bearcats were picked just behind Seton Hall and DePaul.
RETURNING FIREPOWER:
The Bearcats scored just 16 goals in 18 matches last year, but most of those who found the net are back. Led by Jenn Johannigman's six, UC returnees accounted for 12 of those 16 goals. Current Bearcats also accounted for 14 of last year's 16 assists, with Becky Imhoff's six leading the way.
ROUSH RETURNS (AGAIN):
To call Ashley Roush a senior is an understatement. The midfielder is in her sixth season on the Bearcats after missing all of the 2003 and 2004 seasons due to injury. Last year she started 11 of 18 matches and recorded her first career point with an assist against No. 14 Marquette.

Cincinnati closes its non-conference schedule next weekend when it faces Michigan State in East Lansing, Mich. on Thursday, Sept. 7 and hosts Oakland on Sunday, Sept. 10 at 1 p.m.
