EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Cincinnati women's soccer team suffered its second-straight defeat, falling at Michigan State, 2-0, in non-conference action on Thursday afternoon at Old College Field in East Lansing, Mich.
The loss drops the Bearcats record to 2-2-1, while the Spartans snapped a two-match losing streak to climb to 2-3.
MSU was in control for most of the match, earning a 22-7 edge in shots and forcing UC to make 14 saves. Freshman Andrea Kaminski had 13 of those saves, her second consecutive match with that many.
"Andrea made two or three really fantastic saves on one-on-one situations," said head coach Meridy Glenn. "She played really well."
MSU's freshman phenom Lauren Hill scored both goals. Earlier this year she tied a school-record with four goals in a match.
The first marker came just 9:43 in when she took a cross from Maureen Pawlak and fired a shot into the left corner.
"We just didn't get out of the blocks quick and Michigan State capitalized," said Glenn, "we have to be ready to play right away."
The Bearcats did have chances. Lindsey Noteboom drove a long shot on net at the 37-minute mark, but it hit the crossbar and the Bearcats were not able to corral the rebound. UC put together another good run two minutes into the second half, but did not get a shot off.
Hill added her second goal at 72:53 when she headed in a cross from Kristi Timar.
"We just didn't put in a very good team performance," said Glenn. "Our forwards struggled to connect and it cost us a number of scoring opportunities. We did get stellar performances from Gigi Ernst and Kristin May."
