  • INDIANOLA, - 's goal in the second overtime sent the to a 2-1 defeat, its third loss in it last four matches, on Sunday afternoon at Founder's Field. The Bearcats come off a four-match road trip with a 2-3-1 overall record and an 0-2-0 mark in BIG EAST play. Pitt earned its first win of the season, moving to 1-4-1 overall and 1-1-0 in conference play.

    After a scoreless first overtime period, at the 5:10 mark of the second overtime, E.J. McCormick flicked a header past UC keeper Mike Vessells on a free kick by Mike Cunha, sending the Bearcats to their second straight BIG EAST defeat.

    Matt Baker scored the first of the day for the Panthers in the 10th minute. Chris Bastidas served a corner kick into the box and found the head of Brendon Smith. Smith's header caromed back to Baker, who had an open net for his third goal of the season and UC's first goal in three matches.

    The Panthers held possession for much of the first half, but the Bearcats had two prime scoring opportunities. Patrick Baxter fired a shot from just inside the box in the 14th minute that was pushed away by Pitt keeper Jordan Marks. Late in the half, Omar Cummings served a cross that was punched into the air by Marks. Luke Henke put a head on it, but sent it just over the open net.

    In the 52nd minute, Amir Ikner knotted the score on a corner kick. Cummings served the kick into the box and over the outstretched arms of Marks. Ikner played the ball off his shoulder and into the open net for his first of the season.

    In the 80th minute, Sam Miller played a cross into the six and onto the head of Kenny Anaba. His shot was right at Marks and easily knocked away. In the 85th minute, Anaba layed the ball off perfectly to Patrick Baxter making a run down the middle. Baxter's shot went high, sending the match to overtime.

    The Bearcats will return to Gettler Stadium to start a five-match homestand on Sept. 15 against . Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
