BEARCATS RACE AT HOME: Attempting to repeat a first place finish, The University of Cincinnati will compete in their only home meet of the season at the Queen City Invitational. Friday Sept. 15, 2006 at 4:00 p.m. will be the 25th annual Queen City Invitational. Both the men and women's teams took home first place last year and are looking to take the top finish again.
THE QUEEN CITY FIELD: For the 25th consecutive year the Queen City Invitational will take place with the trying to use their home course advantage. The Queen City Invitational began in 1982 and over the 25 years UC has placed first 13 years for the men and 4 years for the women.
With both the men and women taking the first place finishes last season, UC was able to put another win in the books. Leading the pack for the individuals for the men's team was Taylor Garvin, and for the women the win went to a surprised sophomore, Nichole Leslie.
REACHING FOR THE TOP: The start of the season is looking to bring the to the top of the teams to watch for cross- country. The season opener at the Virginia Horse Challenge on the campus of the Virginia Military Institute is a tough course, but the Bearcats were up for it, proving it by taking the first place finishes by both the men's and women's teams.
SO CLOSE: In the opening meet, sophomore Randy King was just four seconds behind the men's top finisher, receiving the second place standing. John Dixon was close behind with fifth place followed by Kyle Dragan and David Adams in seventh and eighth. With some of the top runners not performing their best, Randy King proved that he and the others are ready to step up which create an incredibly strong team.
TRIPOD: The three leading ladies looking to hold the women's team on top for the 2006 season proved their ability in the first meet of the season. Taking the point of the tripod was Nichole Leslie placing second overall at the Virginia Military Institute with the two other points being Jennifer Hannen and Megan Knapp placing third and fourth. With the trio staying tight throughout the season, UC will have a great advantage.
