VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Junior Lindsay Willeford reached a pair of flight finals to headline Cincinnati's participation in the Hampton Roads Collegiate Invitational of Virginia Beach, held at the Owl Creek Municipal Tennis Center last weekend. It was the season-opening tournament for the Bearcats.
Playing in flight D singles, Willeford lost just six games in defeating opponents from Longwood, Temple and James Madison to reach the final. On the other side of the bracket, freshman Rachel Owens also won three straight-set matches. The two did not get to play their match for the flight championship.
In doubles play, Willeford teamed with sophomore Elizabeth Young to win the flight D doubles title, losing just two games along the way.
In flight C singles, Marshall transfer junior Alizee Pardis won three matches in straight-sets, using tie-breakers twice, to reach the final. There she fell to Temple's Christine Clermont, 6-2, 6-3.
Freshman Valeriya Dandik and junior transfer Jennifer Keiner reached the flight A doubles final with wins of 8-1 and 8-4 over teams from James Madison and Longwood. They fell 8-4 in the final to a duo from Old Dominion.
The Bearcats will return to action on October 7-8 at the Miami Invitational in Oxford, Ohio.
