SIMPSONVILLE, Ky.---Senior Sarah Bires enjoyed a career day, shooting a personal-best 74 to lead the University of Cincinnati women's golf team during its opening day of the season at the Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup. Bires' second round score leaves her tied for 30th overall through 36 holes of play.
Bires finds herself just three shots out of the top-15 with 18 holes remaining, holding a score of 155. Junior Allison Mayborg shot rounds of 81 and 77 on Monday and is tied for 39th, three back of Bires. Sophomore Sarah Stamper got her season off to a good start, carding an opening round 79 to set a new career-best.
In the team standings, UC finds itself in 11th, just two shots out of the top-10. Louisville holds the team lead by five shots over Augusta State.
The tournament concludes with the final 18 holes on Tuesday, with an 8:30 a.m. start. Live scoring of the tournament can be found by logging onto golfstat.com.
