CHICAGO - Two goals in the final 13 minutes propelled Cincinnati to a 3-1 win over DePaul in women's soccer action at Wish Field in Chicago on Sunday afternoon.
The Bearcats improved to 5-3-1 on the year and 1-1-0 in the BIG EAST, while DPU fell to 3-5-1, 0-2-0. The win kept UC's record against DePaul perfect at 10-0-1 all-time.
The Bearcats owned a 20-9 edge in shots and 7-2 in cornerkicks as they were the aggressors for most of the match. Andrea Kaminski had fives saves in net for UC and Cara LaRocca recorded seven for the Blue Demons.
"I'm psyched for the team," said head coach Meridy Glenn. "To go on the road and win was huge and it's great that we have three points with nine matches still to play in the BIG EAST."
UC led 1-0 at the half, but the Blue Demons put on the pressure to open the second stanza. They broke through with their first score in three matches when Lauren Spacht took a pass at the top of the box and backheeled it to Jennifer Dyer who beat Kaminski.
Slowly, the Bearcats regained control of play and put together several scoring chances. Chelsea Kindschuh had a one-on-one with LaRocca in the 52nd minute, but LaRocca made a sprawling kick save.
The gamewinner for the Bearcats came at 76:40 as Erin MacDonald played a ball across that Melissa Bigg drove towards the net. It was blocked by the Blue Demons, but they could not control it. Lindsey Noteboom corralled the ball just inside the top of the box and drilled the shot into the lower left corner.
Less than two minutes later, Kate Norton took a free kick from 25 yards out and put it just over LaRocca for her second marker of the year.
"We'll gain so much confidence from this," added Glenn. "It's great to get that before we go back home."
The Bearcats return home to play their next four matches at Gettler Stadium. They are back in action on Friday, Sept. 29 when they host Syracuse at 7 p.m.
UC held an 11-3 advantage in shots and 4-1 in cornerkicks in the first half.
DePaul's one corner resulted in its best scoring chance, as Jen Lee's open header floated over the crossbar.
The Bearcats' pressure finally paid off 13 minutes in as Kindschuh's corner was mishandled by LaRocca and rolled to MacDonald. The freshman punched it over the goal line for her third goal in the last two matches.
Kaminski made two saves in the first half and LaRocca made four.
