FIGHT FOR THE GOLD: On Friday September 29 the Cincinnati Cross Country team will take on a late afternoon race at the Notre Dame Invitational in Southbend, Ind. The meet will feature 14 top ranked teams and the race will begin at 4:15 p.m. Both the men and women are looking to take home their third first place finishes of the season at the 51st annual Notre Dame Invitational.
THE IRISH GROUND: For the 51st consecutive year the Notre Dame Invitational will be held in Southbend, Ind. The race is one of the nations oldest and largest intercollegiate cross country races. 54 teams across the nation will be sending either or both men and women to compete in the meet.
Michigan, Providence, and Florida State are the three colleges that will be sending their nationally ranked both men's and women's teams. Also on Friday of the 14 teams are in the top 30 ranked by the U.S. Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
UP-HILL BATTLE: With the men winning three out of four meets of the season and the women winning all three of their races, UC cross country teams are looking to keep pushing to the top. The Notre Dame Invitational is not going to be easy with the top competition at the match from around the nation, but UC is looking to keep on the up-hill run towards that finish.
MEN FINISH SECOND BEST: Although the men's team was unable to walk away with a first place finish in Bowling Green, Ohio at the Mel Brodt Invitational, the team still performed ahead of most. Junior John Dixon was able to capture a third place finish along with Tommy Morgan placing 13th, Taylor Garvin 14th, Randy King 21st, and Kevin Schwartz finishing 24th.
BEARCAT SUCCESS: Whether looking into the men's or the women's team, one thing is clear is that at the 25th annual Queen City Invitational the Bearcats were successful on both sides. For the men, the top four finishers were Bearcats including; Solomon Kessio finishing first, making the win his first collegiate win, followed by Rick King, Scott Mindal, and Bill Keckeis. On the women's side Megan Knapp was able to receive the first place finish following with the Bearcats taking the places of third through ninth place.
With the strength and confidence the Bearcats had the past weekend could mean big results at the Notre Dame Invitational.
UP NEXT: The Bearcats will be heading to Delaware, Ohio for their all day race on Friday Oct. 6 for the All-Ohio Championships.
