CINCINNATI, Ohio - University of Cincinnati senior defensive tackle Tony Carvitti will miss the remainder of the 2006 football campaign after suffering a season-ending injury midway through the third quarter of the Bearcats' 24-10 victory over Miami University on Saturday.

Carvitti, a Cincinnati native underwent reconstructive surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee earlier today. University of Cincinnati team orthopedist Dr. Angelo Colosimo performed the surgery on Monday at University Hospital.

Carvitti carded two stops, including one for an 8-yard loss and rumbled 15 yards with his first collegiate fumble return in the 111th edition of the Battle for the Victory Bell.

The 6-0, 250-pound defensive tackle earned a scholarship in 2005, after spending two seasons as a walk-on. A starter in each of the first five games of the year, the Elder High School graduate totaled 12 tackles, including two quarterback sacks.
