CINCINNATI, Ohio - In an important match for their hopes of reaching the BIG EAST Tournament, Cincinnati topped Georgetown, 1-0, in women's soccer action on Friday night at Gettler Stadium.

The Bearcats, who entered tied with the Hoyas in the National Division, improved to 6-4-2 on the year and 2-2-1 in the BIG EAST. GU fell to 4-6-4, 1-4-1.

"I'm really happy with our enthusiasm tonight," said head coach Meridy Glenn. "I'm proud of the effort. We came out focused."

Neither team had many serious threats in the first half on a chilly night. The Bearcats capitalized on their first corner kick of the match.

Kristin May sent the cross to the far side where Lindsey Noteboom drove a shot. It was knocked down by keeper Jade Higgins, but the ball bounced right to Becky Imhoff who hit the open net for her third marker of the year. All of Imhoff's goals have been game winners.

The Hoyas' best chance of the opening stanza came as the first half expired when Chrissy Skogen got her head on a corner, but Andrea Kaminski made the save at the post.

In the second half Georgetown put on pressure with its set pieces, numbering four corner kicks. In both the 66th and 73rd minutes, the Hoyas had great chances, but Kaminski and the defense came up big each time.

The Bearcats countered the Hoya pressure with Erin MacDonald. She played most of the second half as the lone attacker for UC and drove into box several times, nearly drawing a pair of penalty kicks.

For the match, the Bearcats held a 13-9 advantage in shots despite allowing eight corner kicks. Kaminski made four saves for her fifth shutout of the year. Higgins had two saves for GU.

UC plays the final home game of the season on Sunday, Oct. 8 when it hosts No. 11 Villanova for Senior Day at Gettler Stadium. Kickoff is at 12:30 with a pregame ceremony to honor the nine Bearcats seniors.
