PROVIDENCE, R.I.---After helping her team climb to fourth in the conference standings over the weekend, University of Cincinnati redshirt sophomore Jessie Nevitt has been named the BIG EAST Volleyball Player of the Week. Nevitt turned in a pair of outstanding performances in helping the Bearcats to sweeps of Villanova and Rutgers.
Nevitt (Kennesaw, Ga./Kennesaw Mountain) averaged 4.33 kills per game in the pair of league contests, hit a combined .533 and recorded 10 block assists. She had one of her best performances of the season against Rutgers, finishing with 15 kills and just one error for a .519 hitting percentage and adding five blocks. Nevitt finished the Villanova match with 11 kills on .556 hitting.
A first team all-conference choice last season, Nevitt ranks among the BIG EAST leaders in blocks per game (second-1.55) and hitting percentage (sixth-.343) this year. She is third on the Bearcats with 2.93 kills per game.
The award marks the second time this season a UC player has been honored, as Nevitt joins classmate Jessica Elley who was chosen on Sept. 4 after a most valuable player performance at the Radisson Hotel Invitational.
The Bearcats are back in action on Saturday, travelling to Louisville for their annual meeting with the rival Cardinals. The match will get underway at 1 p.m. in Cardinal Arena.
