CORAOPOLIS, Pa.---Geoff Newman fired a final round 70 to earn a share of runner-up honors at the Crowne Plaza Colonial Classic. The event, hosted by Robert Morris, wrapped up on Tuesday at the Montour Heights Country Club.
Newman, who ranked fifth through one day of play, matched his season low score to finish the event with a score of 143. Mike Hartman of Duquense, playing as an individual, won medalist honors after a final round 66 put him at 139. Newman shared runner-up honors with day one leader Chris Hart of Niagara, who fell to second following a 76 in round two. Hart opened the tournament with a 67 on Monday.
In the team standings, St. Bonaventure set a tournament record with a total of 592 to win by three shots over Loyola (Md.). The Bearcats saw their team score jump eight shots from the opening round to 304, placing the Bearcats third with a total of 600.
Paul Marshall made the biggest move for the Bearcats, carding a 74 in the finale to rise to a tie for 11th. Marshall held 19th place through 18 holes.
The Bearcats will wrap up the fall portion of their 2006-07 schedule on Nov. 4-5, taking part in the BIG EAST/MAC Challenge in Winter Garden, Fla.
