SETTING THE SCENE: The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team opens its season-ending four-match road swing by facing Marquette and USF this weekend. The Bearcats, who stand 6-5-2 overall and 2-3-1 in the BIG EAST, face Marquette (5-5-4, 3-3-1) on Friday, Oct. 13 at 8 p.m. ET and USF (6-6-1, 3-4-0) on Sunday, Oct. 15 at 1 p.m. ET. The Bearcats are currently in sixth place in the National Division, just one point from a BIG EAST Tournament berth.
STORYLINES:
Freshman Andrea Kaminski has posted five shutouts in net and is fourth in the BIG EAST in saves.
Of the Bearcats' 143 starts, 98 have come from players in their first or second year at UC.
Head coach Meridy Glenn is in her 24th season at the helm of the Bearcats and owns a 248-169-34 career record.
UC is tied in the all-time series against both MU and USF. The Bearcats are 5-5-1 vs. the Golden Eagles and 5-5 vs. the Bulls, both former members of Conference USA.
Marquette is 5-5-4 overall, 3-3-1 in the league and 1-2-1 in its last four. Allison Mallams has scored a team-high seven goals and Laura Boyer has posted two shutouts with a 0.97 GAA in net. MU is 3-2 at home this season.
The Bearcats and Golden Eagles met five times in the Conference USA Tournament championship match, with UC winning four of them.
USF is 6-6-1 and 3-4-0 in the BIG EAST and snapped a four-match losing streak with a win over Pitt on Sunday. Lindsay Brauer has scored nine of the Bulls' 19 goalsand Garrett Casey has four shutouts and a 1.52 GAA. USF is 5-2-1 at home this year and hosts Louisville on Friday.
NOTES FROM GEORGETOWN AND VILLANOVA WEEKEND:
Andrea Kaminski posted her fifth shutout on Friday.
Becky Imhoff scored her third goal of the season on Friday. All three have been gamewinners.
The Bearcats were shutout on Sunday for the third time in four matches.
UC improved to 3-0-1 on Fridays with the win over Georgetown.
The 1-0 loss to No. 11 Villanova dropped UC to 0-1-1 against ranked opponents this year.
APPROACHING MILESTONE:
In 2001 Head Coach Meridy Glenn became the first female in NCAA Division I history to earn 200 career women's soccer victories. Now in her 24th season, she is just two short of reaching 250 career wins. She is the second-winningest female coach in NCAA Division I history and 13th all-time in career wins.
MacDONALD FINDS THE NET:
After being a constant scoring threat for the Bearcats in every match, freshman Erin MacDonald finally broke into the scoring column with the first two goals of her career in UC's 3-0 win over Cleveland State on Sept. 17. She added her third a match later against DePaul. For the season, MacDonald is tied for the team lead with six points.
KAMINSKI SOLID IN NET:
Freshman keeper Andrea Kaminski started her career off right by making five saves in UC's season-opening 1-0 win over Kentucky. For her efforts she was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week on Aug. 28. She opened her career with 227:52 of scoreless netminding. She is fourth in the BIG EAST with 69 saves and fifth with five shutouts.
MAKING THEM COUNT:
Senior Becky Imhoff has netted three goals this season to tie for the team lead and every one of them have counted. All three of her markers have been gamewinners, earning UC wins over Miami (Ohio), Cleveland State and Georgetown. The three gamewinners is tied for fifth in the BIG EAST.
TAKING THE SHOTS:
The Bearcats, despite scoring just once in the last four matches, have not had any trouble getting shots off. UC has outshot its opponent in the last six matches and in nine of 13 overall this year. Becky Imhoff is sixth in the BIG EAST with 46 shots.
POWER OF YOUTH:
While the Bearcats return nine starters, they are indeed a young team. Eighteen players are in their first or second year at UC. Of the 143 starts made this year, 98 have been made by these players.
NOTRE DAME MATCH:
The Notre Dame match, cancelled on Sept. 22 due to lightning, will be replayed on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at Gettler Stadium if needed to determine tournament seeding.
