CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Almost everyone in attendance at the Bearcats' first intrasquad scrimmage was in agreement that the team has a lot of work to do prior to Cincinnati's men's basketball season opener.
Head coach Mick Cronin saw a number of positives after the workout, the most important that this was another valuable teaching tool for the first year head coach and the young UC squad.
"I'm big on teaching the guys the game," stated Cronin, who will take the tape of the scrimmage to show the Bearcats not just what they are doing right and wrong, but how to get it done.
"I'm not a believer in telling them what to do and what not to do," the coach continued. "Showing them the tape is very effective at getting them to learn their responsibilities."
When they start reviewing the tapes, the Bearcats will see a few good individual performances. John Williamson posted a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. The Cincinnati State product had six offensive rebounds in helping the Black team post a 35-20 rebounding margin in its 56-53 win.
Freshman Deonta Vaughn finished with 16 points and had three assists and a steal for the Black team.
Marvin Gentry tallied 11 points for the Red team, which included a 3-of-7 shooting performance from 3-point range. Jamual Warren had eight points, five assists and three steals.
The Bearcats open their exhibition schedule on Nov. 1 hosting Northern Kentucky.
