NEWARK, N.J. - A goal by Katherine DeTata in the 41st minute gave Seton Hall as 1-0 win over Cincinnati on Sunday in BIG EAST women's soccer action. The loss by the Bearcats drops them behind the Pirates for the final spot in the BIG EAST Tournament and will force UC stage a make-up game against No. 1 Notre Dame on Tuesday in what will be a must-win situation for Cincinnati.
DeTata's goal came off a cross from Megan Fenton and was one of only two shots on goal for SHU. The Bearcats managed just four shots total to the Pirates' 12, putting two on net. Amanda Becker stopped both for her fifth shutout.
UC's best scoring chance came in the 58th minute as Kate Norton slammed a shot off the post.
"We did a good job in the second half," said head coach Meridy Glenn, "but we couldn't get the goal we needed. We have one more chance to get into the BIG EAST Tournament. We just have to go out there and take it to them."
The Bearcats suffered their sixth shutout in the last eight matches in dropping to 7-8-2 overall and 3-6-1 in the league. SHU improved to 7-9-2, 3-6-2. The Pirates now have 11 points to UC's 10 in the National Division of the BIG EAST.
The match against Notre Dame will be at UC's Gettler Stadium on Tuesday, Oct. 24. A time will be announced later on Sunday.
