SOUTHERN PINES, N.C.---Hillery Wilson's strong fall campaign continued on Monday as the junior is tied for third place through 36 holes at the Ross Resorts Invitational. The highly competitive event is being hosted by NCAA Division II powerhouse Rollins College at the Mid Pines Inn and Golf Club.
Wilson shot back-to-back rounds of 75 during the opening day of the tournament and stands just one stroke out of the number two spot. Rollins' Vanessa Vela turned in rounds of 73 and 69 to hold a seven-shot lead in the battle for individual medalist honors.
The play of Wilson has helped the Bearcats to sixth place in the team standings with one day to play. UC shot a combined 624 to trail a tie for fourth between Yale and Middle Tennessee State by just two shots. Rollins, with a day one score of 600 holds a seven-shot lead over Princeton at the top of the leaderboard.
Sophomore Sarah Stamper had the biggest turnaround of the day for the Bearcats, experiencing her worst and best rounds of the year in the same day. She opened the tournament with an 86, but bounced back with a career-low 73 to end the day at 159 and tied for 32nd. Classmate Marianne Erb holds the 25th position with a score of 157.
The Bearcats will wrap up the fall portion of the schedule with the final round of the Ross Resorts Invitational, beginning at 8 a.m.
