CINCINNATI, Ohio -- University of Cincinnati sophomore defender Kim Sykes has been named to the women's soccer CoSIDA Academic All-District second team.

Sykes is a psychology major who owns a perfect 4.0 GPA. She was named a BIG EAST Academic All-Star last year and was inducted into UC's Legion of Excellence. She is also a member of Alpha Lambda Delta national honor society.

Sykes was a Bearcats co-captain this past season. She has started all 36 matches of her career on the UC backline. This season the Bearcats cut their goals allowed by 13 and posted seven shutouts.

District IV, into which UC falls, consists of NCAA Division I universities in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. This is the second-straight year a Bearcat has been honored after Gigi Ernst made the third team last year.

The teams are voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America. To qualify, student-athletes must hold at least sophomore status, own a minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.2, and be either a starter or key reserve for their team.
