SETTING THE SCENE: After a successful performance last weekend at the Head of the Iowa Regatta, the University of Cincinnati rowing team continues its fall schedule on Saturday, Nov. 4 at the Head of the Hooch Regatta in Chattanooga, Tenn. Held on the Tennessee River, the Hooch is a large high school, college and club regatta that this year has attracted crews from 135 organizations from across the country.

ABOUT THE REGATTA: A full weekend of rowing action will take place on the Tennessee River this weekend as the annual Head of the Hooch Regatta will be hosted by the Atlanta Rowing Club. The large co-ed regatta will draw crews from mostly the south and Midwest, beginning on Saturday morning, Nov. 4. Cincinnati will compete in three different races, beginning with a pair of boats in the Collegiate and Club Novice 8 beginning at 9:35 a.m. At 10:45 a.m., two Bearcat crews will battle for supremacy in the Championship 8 race. The day wraps up for UC at 3:10 p.m. with two boats in action in the Championship 4 event.

ABOUT THE BEARCATS: The Bearcats return 21 letterwinners for second-year head coach Pam Mork. Of the returnees, seven spent at least part of last season on the first varsity eight crew, including junior coxswain Liz Johnson. Other top athletes returning include seniors Sarah Lautenslager, Jodie Lush and Elizabeth Tremblay, juniors Beth Murphy and Lisa Teague and sophomore Sarah White.

The start to the 2006-07 season has been a successful one for the Bearcats with two events in the books. UC opened the season with a convincing 13 second victory over Indiana in exhibition action, before a successful venture to the Head of the Iowa Regatta last weekend. In Iowa, UC's most impressive run came in the 30-boat open eight race in which the Bearcats finished fifth, behind only crews from Big 10 powers Minnesota and Iowa. UC also scored a sixth-place finish in the 33-boat open four event.
