PROVIDENCE, R.I.---Jessie Nevitt's impressive play during the final weekend of the BIG EAST regular season has been recognized as she has been named the BIG EAST Player of the Week for the second time this season. The sophomore's play over the weekend helped Cincinnati solidify the number four seed for the upcoming BIG EAST Championship.

Nevitt (Kennesaw, Ga./Kennesaw) was the dominate player in each of the Bearcats' weekend victories. In wins over Georgetown and USF, Nevitt averaged 4.50 kills and 3.67 blocks per game, while hitting .553. Against Georgetown, the middle blocker tied a school record for most blocks in a three-game match with 13, while adding a match-high 16 kills. Nevitt followed that performance with an 11 kill, nine block outing against USF.

The award for Nevitt is the second for her this season, as she also picked up the honor on Oct. 9. Teammate Jessica Elley was named player of the week on Sept. 4, while Jaime Frey grabbed rookie of the week recognition on Oct. 30.

Cincinnati opens the 2006 BIG EAST Volleyball Championship on Friday, hosting fifth-seeded Notre Dame at 6 p.m. All seven matches of the tournament will be held in Fifth Third Arena on UC's campus.
