CINCINNATI, Ohio---Longtime University of Cincinnati sports medicine head Bill Walker and former intern Kevin Lord were recently honored by the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) for their Lifesaving Actions prior to a UC football game last fall. Walker and Lord were credited with saving the life of the father of a Bearcat football recruit.
During the fall of 2005, the duo received an emergency call to a reception for football recruits and their parents to assist a man in distress. Walker, a 30-plus year veteran of the UC Department of Athletics, instructed Lord to grab the staff's Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) on the way to the man's side. Finding that the man had stopped breathing and had no pulse, Walker and Lord used the AED to save the individual's life.

"This is just another example of the exceptional service that Bill Walker and his staff provide to family," Cincinnati Director of Athletics Mike Thomas said. "For these two gentlemen to be honored for their heroic act is much deserved. We are very proud of the job that they do on a daily basis and especially in this instance."
Walker and Lord each received a certificate honoring their actions and have been recognized in the National Athletic Trainers' Association News.
