CINCINNATI, Ohio - University of Cincinnati senior kicker Kevin Lovell was named the BIG EAST Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in Cincinnati's 26-23 win at Connecticut on Nov. 25. Sophomore Derrick Stewart was also recognized by the BIG EAST after Saturday's regular-season finale.
Lovell kicked the game-winning 29-yard field goal with 10 seconds remaining to give Cincinnati the three-point victory at Connecticut. The Bearcat senior was 4-for-4 on field goal attempts in the game, connecting from 25, 28, 42 and 29 yards. He also made both his PAT attempts to extend his school record streak to 79.
Stewart collected nine catches for 166 yards, including a three-yard touchdown catch to lead the Bearcats to the triumph at Connecticut. The sophomore's effort was the top receiving day by a Bearcat this season. Stewart's 50-yard catch and run of Nick Davila's pass started the game-winning scoring drive.
UC (7-5, 4-3 BIG EAST) wrapped up the regular season victorious in four of its last five games, including a 30-11 upset of No. 7 Rutgers. The determination of a bowl game for the Bearcats will be announced next week.
