CINCINNATI, Ohio -- University of Cincinnati freshman Deonta Vaughn has been named BIG EAST Conference Rookie of the Week in the league's first selection of weekly awards.

Vaughn averaged 26.0 points and 5.5 assists in a pair of UC games last week. The 6-1 freshman from Indianapolis scored 33 points, setting a new Cincinnati freshman single game record, vs. Wofford, sinking nine 3-point field goals, the second-most treys by a Bearcat.

Vaughn followed that performance with 19 points, seven rebounds and five assists vs. Central Michigan. He shot .571 from both the field and from 3-point range for the two games.

Vaughn is the Bearcats' second-leading scorer, averaging 15.0 points, and leads the team in assists with his 5.4 average.

Cincinnati has a pair of home games this week. The Bearcats host Oakland on Wednesday at 8 p.m. and UAB on Saturday at 4 p.m.
