  • CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Bearcat women's basketball team looked like they've been playing all season in their 103-77 win over DT3 - an all-star team comprised of recent graduates from Division I universities - in preseason exhibition action Friday night at Fifth Third Arena. UC looked particularly good in the first 15 minutes, shooting 75 percent (6-of-8)from three-point range.

Senior guard Treasure Humphries shined in the exhibition opener, leading the Bearcats with 20 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Fellow senior Karen Twehues had 14 points, including on 3-of-6 from behind the arc.

True freshman Carla Jacobs got the nod at point guard, the first UC freshman starting point guard since Jolinda Lewis who earned the job during the 1995-96 season. Jacobs finished with 13 points, four rebounds and a team-high seven assists. Another true freshman, Stephanie Stevens, came off the bench, shooting 2-for-2 on three point attempts for six points.

UC is known for its rookie talent. Last year's squad of five freshmen made immediate impacts in the Bearcats lineup. Back with one year of experience, the five combined for 39 points against DT3. Shelly Bellman led the sophomores with 16 points, eight rebounds, four assists and a blocked shot. Angel Morgan poured in 10 points, while Michelle Jones provided six points and seven rebounds, Jill Stephens had five points and Kahla Roudebush chipped in two.

    Scorching First Half

UC erupted for a 61-36 halftime lead, only seven off the Bearcats record for most points in a period. Last season the Bearcats averaged 67.5 points in a game. The Bearcats drilled 11 three point field goals in the first half, just one shy of the single game record of 12 set against on March 5, 2004, though the stats do not count because it's an exhibition game. The Bearcats were on fire, shooting 11-of-18 (61 percent) from behind the arc in the first half. Bellman and Morgan each sank three treys in the opening stanza. Eight different UC players hit from long distance in the game. Senior Karen Twehues hit the Bearcats' 12th trey of the game at the 8:59 mark, giving UC an 85-59 lead and sophomore Jill Stephens - who hit one trifecta all last season - hit No. 13 for the Bearcats who finished with 15.

    Quick Notes:

    • The Bearcats also thrived on the fast break, scoring 18 points on the run.
    • The last time UC scored in triple figures was Nov.25, 2003 when the Bearcats knocked off Southern 105-60.
    • UC closes out their preseason with an exhibition game against the OBGR All-Stars Monday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. at Fifth Third Arena.
