SETTING THE SCENE: A day after losing their first game of the season, the Bearcats take on Princeton in the consolation round of the Mildred and Roger L. White Invitational, hosted by Northwestern. Cincinnati must regroup quickly from its 81-73 loss to Northern Illinois, when the Bearcats allowed the Huskies a 53 shooting percentage from 3-point range and sent them to the free throw line 34 times. The Tigers lost in the second game of the opening round, 67-53 to the host school Northwestern (6-1). Northwestern and Northern Illinois will face off in the all-Illinois final following the consolation game.
UC LAST TIME OUT: Cincinnati fell to Northern Illinois, 81-73, at the 23rd annual Mildred and Roger L. White Invitational hosted by Northwestern. The Bearcats (5-1) suffered their first loss of the season at Welsh-Ryan Arena by the hot hand of the Huskies who shot 53 percent from behind the arc. It's the same weapon UC has thrived on this season, but the Bearcats sank just 3-of-17 from 3-point range.
w The Bearcats sent NIU to the free throw line 34 times and gave up a season-high 10 treys.
w Shelly Bellman scored a season-high 25 points, shooting 9-of-16 from the field.
w UC shot just 17 percent (3-of-17) from 3-point range, well off its season average of 34 percent.
w UC has out rebounded all six opponents it has played this season, including a +2 margin against the Huskies. The Bearcats have a+12.2 rebounding margin on the year.
A LOOK AT PRINCETON: Princeton, the reigning Ivy League champions, is 2-4 so far in the 2006-07 campaign. The Tigers lost to a surging Northwestern squad that has already equaled its win total from last season (6), in the first round of the Mildred and Roger L. White Invite.
w This is the first meeting between Cincinnati and Princeton women's basketball. The Bearcats have played three other schools that represent the Ivy League and are 2-1.
w Princeton's Meagan Cowher --daughter of Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher --has scored in double figures in 12 consecutive games, dating back to last season.
LOOKING AHEAD: Following the Mildred and Roger L. White Invitational this weekend the Bearcats will have the week off for final exams. UC will host Alabama State Sunday, Dec. 10 at 1 p.m. at UC Clermont.
