Excellence typifies Jessie Nevitt and everything she sets her mind to do... "When you have something you want to do, don't give up on it," advises Jessie.

Jessie decided on a career in the hospitality field after a job working the phones and providing customer service at a neighborhood Pizza Hut in her home town of Kennesaw, Georgia. She transferred into CAS as soon as the Facilities and Hospitality Management degree was announced.

"This is the field for me. It challenges me to utilize all of my people and organizing skills while athletics taught me teamwork and how to get results working with others." These skills will be put to the test as her first CAS co-op work assignment begins shortly with the Hyatt international hotel chain.

"Coming to CAS has been an amazing experience. It is so personal. The advisors, administrators and teachers all go out of their way to help you and learn about you. I've already met some of my favorite teachers... It's great."

An honors student and three sport athlete in high school, Jessie carries a 3.6 GPA in her major and recognition as a Bearcat and Topcat Scholar at UC.

Even though her chosen degree was not immediately offered here, Jessie wanted to play volleyball at the college level. She chose UC because Reed Sunahara is a top coach in NCAA Division I and she actually liked the construction and being a part of the university's growth.

College volleyball required adjustments and Jessie cites the structured study program of the athletic department for her solid grades. She then cites her redshirt freshman year as key to getting prepared for high level collegiate competition.

First Team All Big East in volleyball for 2006 and consistently achieving Dean's List marks clearly show that Jessie achieves excellence and "Doesn't give up on her goals."
