CINCINNATI, Ohio--University of Cincinnati head coach Brian Kelly has filled four positions on his coaching staff.
Tim Hinton, who has served as running backs coach at UC the last three years, is staying on board and will be responsible for the linebackers. Three members of the Central Michigan staff, Joe Tresey (pronounced TRAY-cee), Greg Forest and Mike Elston are joining Kelly at UC. Tresey will be the defensive coordinator, Forest will serve as running backs coach and Elston takes the duties of tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator.
"The first level in putting together a staff was to bring in recruiters experienced in the state of Ohio," stated Kelly. "Tim, Joe, Greg and Mike combine to give UC a strong presence and great experience in Ohio high school football. They are very familiar with coaches and high school programs throughout the state and that is going to be our base."
Tresey brings a wealth of high school and college coaching experience to the Bearcats. He spent 10 years as head coach at several high school programs in Ohio before moving up to the collegiate level.

Tresey joined Kelly's staff in 2006 and quickly implemented a style that forced 27 turnovers and 28 sacks in 13 games. He previously spent two seasons at Georgia Southern (2004-05). In 2004, GSU ranked fourth nationally in total defense.
A 12-year college coaching veteran, Tresey managed the defense and coached defensive backs at Akron during the 2002-03 seasons. He served the previous three seasons (1999-2001) as defensive secondary coach at Virginia Military Institute. Tresey began his college coaching career as the defensive coordinator at Otterbein in 1995.
No stranger to Southwest Ohio, Tresey served four seasons as head coach at Middletown High School (1991-94). He has prior head coaching stops at New Philadelphia High School, Fredericktown High School and Mechanicsburg High School.
| Mike Elston |
After a standout career at Michigan, Elston stayed on the Ann Arbor, Mich. campus to begin his coaching career. A starter and three-year letterwinner, at outside linebacker, for head coach Lloyd Carr, Elston worked as a student assistant and later as a graduate assistant at his alma mater.
A native of St. Mary's Ohio, Elston was a part of Michigan's national championship staff in 1997. He also aided in wins in the Citrus Bowl (1998, 2000) and Orange Bowl (1999) during his tenure.
Elston came to Central Michigan after a three-year stint at Eastern Michigan. After instructing the Chippewas' defensive line in 2004, he shared the defensive coordinator title in 2005. Elston focused on linebackers and special teams this past season.
| Greg Forest |
Forest will continue his 16-year relationship as an assistant to Kelly at UC.
A native of Columbus, Ohio, Forest coached wide receivers for 11 years at Grand Valley State. He mentored the top three receivers in GVSU history and all three went on to earn All-America recognition. He spent one season each with the receivers, running backs and tight ends at Central Michigan.
He began his career at Grandview Heights High School in Columbus. After four seasons, he went on to be a student assistant at Ohio Northern.
Hinton struck success almost immediately as running backs coach after arriving at Cincinnati in 2004. In his first season, he helped develop Richard Hall into a 1,000-yard rusher and an all-league performer and tutored a ground attack which averaged 183.4 yards per contest.

This past season, Hinton worked with a trio of Bearcat running backs that combined to total 1,358 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns. Involved in UC's special teams, Hinton's efforts resulted in the Bearcats averaging 22.8 yards per kickoff return this season, ranking them 23rd nationally.
Before arriving at UC, Hinton spent 11 seasons as head coach at Marion Harding High School. The 1995 Ohio Division I co-Coach of the Year has served nine seasons as an assistant at the collegiate level.
The new staff will begin getting the Bearcats ready for their Jan. 6, 2007 game vs. Western Michigan in the International Bowl in Toronto, Ont. The team returns for practice on Dec. 17.
