CINCINNATI, Ohio--The University of Cincinnati football team conducted its first practice under the direction of head coach Brian Kelly on Monday afternoon. Kelly and the UC grid squad spent two hours on the Nippert Stadium turf emphasizing fundamentals and introducing new techniques in helmets and shoulder pads.

"I love the enthusiasm of our defense," Kelly stated. "There's a great demeanor there. We need to transfer that attitude over to our offense."

The Bearcats conducted 24 five-minute periods in their first action since the regular-season finale on Nov. 25 at Connecticut. It was an up-tempo practice for a squad that has not worked on the gridiron together in 23 days.

Getting ready for his first game as UC's head coach Kelly added, "They want to get better and that's a great feeling as a teacher and coach. Each time we come out here, we're going to challenge our players to competitive greatness."

The practice marked the first of 15 workouts for the Bearcats before the 2007 International Bowl against Western Michigan. Kickoff from Toronto, Ont. is set for 12:00 noon on ESPN2.

Tickets in the Cincinnati fan section for the inaugural International Bowl are available by calling the UC Athletics Ticket Office at 1-877-CATS-TIX or online at www.GoBEARCATS.com. Game tickets are $40 per ticket. VISA, MasterCard, Discover and American Express cards are accepted.

Please encourage fans to buy tickets directly through the University of Cincinnati. Tickets purchased before Dec. 22 will be allocated based on the priority points system.

Tickets may be ordered through the UC Athletics Ticket Office until 6 p.m., Friday, Dec. 29. Tickets will remain on sale to the general public until noon, Friday, Jan. 5, for both phone and online orders. Ticket orders received after Dec, 29 will be picked up at the UC Will Call Window, located at Gate 6A, at the Rogers Centre. The Will Call Window at the Rogers Centre will be open two (2) hours prior to scheduled kickoff. Valid photo ID required.
