- Senior Karen Twehues did what upper classmen are supposed to do. The UC four-year letter winner took control of a game in the final minutes and directed the young Bearcats to a 67-61 win over Alabama A&M on Monday at Fifth Third Arena.
UC, coming off an emotional loss to in their BIG EAST opener, picked up a win they needed. The Bearcats (8-2) retained a 10-point-or-more lead throughout most of game, but the Lady Bulldogs (4-5) snuck up and got within four points with a little over a minute remaining. That's when Twehues took over. She had a monster final minute, recording a steal, an offensive rebound, two free throws to put the game out of reach, and just in case that wasn't enough, she blocked a Bulldog shot on the other end with eight ticks left in the game. Twehues, who corralled a career-high 11 rebounds, picked up the first double-double of her career with 12 points. She finished with two blocks and two steals.
Sophomore Angel Morgan also had a memorable game, dishing out a career-high eight assists. Michelle Jones was two points off her personal best, with a game-high 16 points.
Bearcats at the Half
The Bearcats took a 42-25 lead into the locker room and led by as many as 17 in the final minutes of the first half. UC led 35-18 on Twehues' trey on the assist from Treasure Humphries. Shelly Bellman and Jones each scored in double digits before the end of the first stanza. Angel Morgan had five assists in the first half, one off her personal best. Jones hit a lay up, on the dish from Morgan, with 47 seconds remaining in the half. UC shot 56 percent from the field, including 5-of-8 from 3-point range (63 percent). out rebounded the Bulldogs by more than 2-to-1 with 22 boards to AAMU's 10.

- The Bearcats had three players score in double figures for the 10th consecutive game. Jones (16), Bellman (14), and Twehues (12). Bellman has scored in double figures in nine of 10 games this year and 23 in her career.
- UC has out rebounded nine of its 10 opponents, including A&M, 39-23.
- Angel Morgan's eight assists are a career high.
- Karen Twehues blocked two shots, a career-high.
- Treasure Humphries' free throw with 16:27 to play gave UC its first point of the second half.
- This is only the second game this season, UC has had more turnovers than its opponent.
- The Bearcats blocked three shots, a season-high for the team.
- The Lady Bulldogs went on a 12-5 run to start the second period, getting to within 47-37 with 12:55 to play in the game.
- The Bearcats return to Fifth Third Arena to take on Tennessee Tech on Thursday, Dec. 21 at 7 p.m.
