CINCINNATI, Ohio-- Slated to practice for a full two hours, head coach Brian Kelly stopped the University of Cincinnati football team's workout five minutes earlier than scheduled.

"We're going to practice at this tempo. We're trying to work hard, work smart, and get things done. If we can get things done, we'll reward this team by getting off the field early."

"Cincinnati got the steal of the coaching season when it landed Brian Kelly." Matt Hayes, Sporting News

The UC football program recently received high accolades from Matt Hayes of Sporting News for the hiring of Kelly. In the College Bowls Preview edition of the magazine, which is on newsstands now, Hayes gave high praise to the Bearcats' new chief mentor.

"Cincinnati got the steal of the coaching season when it landed Brian Kelly. He knows offense as well as anyone and will coach the Bearcats against Western Michigan in the International Bowl. Kelly will stick with the terminology of Cincinnati's current offense for now, but he will install principles of the offense that led Central Michigan to the MAC title this year. Kelly will change to his system completely in the spring, and the extra three weeks of bowl practices will be huge for next year`s transition season-- especially considering the Bearcats will return the majority of their starters on both sides of the ball."

The Bearcats continue to prepare for their Jan. 6 matchup in the inaugural International Bowl against Western Michigan. Kickoff from Rogers Centre (formerly SkyDome) is slated for 12:00 noon.
