CLEVELAND, Ohio - Defense--the backbone of the University of Cincinnati's success this season--was lacking and as a result, the Bearcats suffered a 79-66 loss to Ohio University in a game played in Quicken Loans Arena.

Four Bearcats scored in double figures and UC shot a respectable .473 from the field. UC failed to hold down the Bobcats' high-scoring attack, and as a result, suffered their fourth loss of the season.

"That was our worst defensive effort of the season, and we got exactly what we deserved," stated UC head coach Mick Cronin. "I am disappointed with our effort.

"We've been competitive all year because of our efforts on defense, that we've taken care of the ball and we have limited turnovers and second shots. We did not do that today," Cronin continued.

John Williamson finished with 15 points and nine rebounds. Jamual Warren continued his improved offensive production with 15 points. Cedric McGowan had 13 points and Marvin Gentry matched his career high with 13 points.

The Bearcats committed an uncommonly-high 18 turnovers. UC was also victim of Ohio's 30-of-36 performance at the foul line, but Cronin was quick to dismiss the disparity in free throws.

"The free throws were a direct result of our poor defense," the coach explained.

UC jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the first two minutes of the game but Bubba Walther awoke the OU offense with eight of his 18 points to thrust the Bobcats into control of the game. Ohio built a double-digit lead by the middle of the first half. UC cut the margin to five points early in the second half and made another run that trimmed OU's lead to seven midway through the period but the Bobcats responded to each Cincinnati charge.

Leon Williams led four OU double-figure scorers with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Williams was 12-of-15 from the foul line.

Cincinnati, 9-4, closes non-conference play at Memphis on Jan. 4.
