BOWLING GREEN, -- The University of Cincinnati indoor track and field team opened the 2007 season with a win at the Bowling Green Quad at Perry Fieldhouse. UC recorded 181.5 points, outdistancing host BGSU (165.5), (125) and IPFW (56).
The Bearcats won six events, with Shintara Carpenter capturing a pair of titles. Carpenter won the long jump with an 18' 4-1/4" leap and also was victorious in the triple jump with a 38' 7-3/4" jump.
Senior Karen Berling won the 5,000 meters (17:54.51), senior Renee Hein captured the high jump (5' 10") and junior Brittany Klima won the pole vault (11' 11-1/4"), with teammate Tara Meier finishing second, also clearing 11' 11-1/4". Freshman Ashley Arnold grabbed the 500 meter title, finishing in 1:17.45.
Junior Ije Obiorah finished second in the long jump (17' 10-1/4") and third in the triple jump (34' 2-3/4"). Sophomore Lisa Klotz was a third-place finisher in the weight throw (46' 5-1/2") and placed second in the shot put (42' 4-1/4").
The Bearcats will make the first of back-to-back trips to Bloomington, Ind. for the Gladstein Invitational, hosted by Indiana, on Fri.-Sat. Jan. 26-27.
