CINCINNATI, Ohio---In preparation for the 2007 campaign and in anticipation of its season-opener, the University of Cincinnati baseball team will kick off official team practice on Tuesday, Jan. 23. The Bearcats will be prepping for their opener at Florida Atlantic Feb. 9-11 in Boca Raton, Fla.

Since returning to campus following the Christmas break, the UC players have spent time conditioning and working in small groups with Bearcats coaches. Now, all 35 players on the 2007 roster will converge at once to work as a unit.

"We are excited to begin with our entire group together," stated UC head coach Brian Cleary. "It is much easier to begin preparing for the season this way as opposed to having guys on an individual basis. We are less than three weeks away from opening day and we don't have a whole lot of time. We have a lot to do in a short period of time to get ourselves as ready as we can."

While Cleary and his staff will work to get all the right pieces into place, the Bearcats will also have to overcome the weather in Cincinnati. Three inches of snow fell on the city over the weekend and forecasted cold temperatures will likely push the Bearcats' preparation indoors.

"It's unlikely we will get to spend much time outside this week," Cleary added. "We probably will have to rely on Armory Fieldhouse more than we would like to, but we will utilize the cages in the stadium as well. Moving indoors is less than ideal, but its nothing more than we have had to deal with in the past. We have a plan in place to prepare ourselves the best we can. In a perfect world, we would be able to spend time outside, but such is the life of a northern team in preparing for a college baseball season."

The Bearcats open their 28-game home schedule on March 3, hosting a doubleheader against Dartmouth. Season tickets are reasonably priced at $20 for adults and $10 for youth. To order tickets now, call the UC Ticket Office at 1-877-CATS-TIX.
