The future looks bright this season for Bearcats' catcher and outfielder Dustin Alvey. After redshirting during the 2006 season, Alvey is healthy and looking to make an impact this season. As a freshman in 2005, Alvey batted 32 times, accumulating a .281 batting average. Normally a catcher, Dustin broke into the outfield ranks in a conference game against USF. In that game, Alvey recorded his first three hit game since joining the Cats.

Looking ahead to this season, Dustin sees a young Bearcat team that should achieve a high level of success in the BIG EAST. Dustin will do whatever it takes to ensure this high success level. "As a team we have a lot of talent this year. As for my role, I will be glad to do whatever it takes to help us win, whether that is catching, outfield or designated hitting." Regardless of role he plays, when his number is called, Dustin will be ready to succeed.

Not only is Dustin dedicated to helping his team win baseball games, he also strives for success in the classroom and workplace. As a part of the University of Cincinnati Lindner Plus Program and a current finance major, Alvey is setting himself up for success after college. What some Bearcat baseball fans might not know is that Dustin recently interned at Cincinnati based investment firm, Bahl & Gaynor Investment Counsel. This investment firm provides services to high net worth individuals and corporations. According to Alvey, "working at Bahl & Gaynor really was a positive experience. My co-workers were so humble, outgoing and helpful, it really added to my interest."

In the opinion of Dustin, similarities abound between the baseball diamond and investing. With baseball, an incredible amount of work must be exuded in order to be successful. Similar, with investing, the research and preparation to buy a stock can be just as rigorous. "Similar to preparing for a baseball game, in the investing industry, there is constant research and preparation involved in order to be successful." If Alvey works as hard at investing as he does in baseball and academics, he is destined for success.
