CINCINNATI, Ohio---The University of Cincinnati baseball team was in the spotlight this week as both Baseball America and ESPN Regional featured the Bearcats. Baseball America's recognition came as part of it's annual college preview issue, while the television coverage came during the UC-Pittsburgh men's basketball game on Jan. 24.

In the latest edition of Baseball America, Cincinnati is projected to finish seventh in the BIG EAST, the same position the league coaches tabbed the Bearcats earlier this month. In addition, pitchers John Baird and Steve Blevins, along with infielder Josh Harrison were all recognized as top players in the BIG EAST.

Baird, a newcomer to the UC roster, was ranked as the third-best newcomer in the league this year. He was also named the No. 3 prospect in the BIG EAST for the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft.

Blevins and Harrison, both Freshman All-Americans and All-BIG EAST selections a year ago, were named to the publication's preseason all-conference team.

The Bearcats open the 2007 season with a three-game series at Florida Atlantic, Feb. 9-11. UC completed last season with a 32-26 overall record and a sixth place finish in the BIG EAST.
