CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The University of Cincinnati tennis team improved to 2-0 for the first time since 2004 with a 5-2 win over Miami (Ohio) on Friday night at the Queen City Racquet Club.

The Bearcats, who won just once during an injury-plagued 2006 season, have won their opening two matches since starting 2004 with a 4-0 mark.

UC started with a dominating win at No. 1 doubles, as freshman Rachel Owens and senior Hannah Hinton topped Linda Jirouskova and Katrina Lomidze, 8-1. The RedHawks (1-3) evened the score with an 8-2 win by Kelly Douple and Jessica Linden at No. 3 doubles. The Bearcats claimed the doubles point when Valeriya Dandik and Alizee Paradis beat Kristen McPhillips and Victoria Pulido, 8-6, at the No. 2 pair.

UC dropped just two games as Owens and Hinton won at the top two singles spots by identical 6-1, 6-0 scores. Owens improved to 10-2 on the year and Hinton to 8-3. Dandik defeated Jirouskova, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 3 singles and Elizabeth Young outlasted Pulido, 7-5, 7-6(2) at No.5 for UC's other two wins.
