PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- John Williamson scored a team-high 15 points, but the University of Cincinnati fell 71-70 at Providence on Tuesday night. PC's Sharaud Curry made a foul shot with 14.2 seconds left to give the home team the deciding advantage in the game.
Curry, who had a game-high 24 points, made 8 of 13 shots overall and 5 of 8 three-point attempts. Friars center Herbert Hill, who had 16 points and 11 rebounds, forced Willamson to attempt a difficult shot before the buzzer.
Cincinnati had taken its biggest lead, 70-62, at 1:44 on a putback by Cedric McGowan. The Bearcats then missed the first of two straight opportunities at the foul line and Curry scored all nine Friar points in the remaining time, including consecutive 3-pointers.
Cincinnati (10-13, 1-8 Big East)scored 26 points off 16 Providence turnovers and shut down the Friars' 3-point shooting for much of the second half.
Providence (15-7, 5-4 Big East) made 7 of its first 11 3-point attempts including two each by Efejuku, McDermott and Curry in building a 25-19 lead. Williamson scored nine by intermission to tie the score at 38.
