LONG ISLAND, N.Y. -- The Cincinnati men's swimming team set a school-record in the 200 medley relay on the first day of the 2007 BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Championships at the Nassau County Aquatics Center on Wednesday.

The foursome of Daniel Goldberg, Steve Marshall, Josh Schneider and Marcel Kleiner finished the race in 1:29.57 to finish third, UC's best finish in the days' four races. Marshall and Kleiner were part of the team that set the record last year at 1:30.09.

Four relays and the 1-meter diving were the only events on the first day of the championships. In the men's other race, the 800 freestyle relay, UC was disqualified after a swimmer left the blocks early.

Both women's relay teams swam season-best times. In the 800 free relay, Alex Doyle, Gerdien de Jong, Lange Gilby and Randi Vogel finished in 7:31.76 to place eighth. In the 200 medley relay, Vogel, Annelie Jonsson, Annelie, Elinore de Jong and Doyle placed seventh in a time of 1:45.41, less than a second off the school-mark.

Day two of the championships begins at 10 a.m. on Thursday with preliminary heats of the 500 free.
