Snow Day
February 13, 2007
Today we have a snow day! This morning I woke up to snow which was a surprise because last night it was not that cold, but it must have gotten much colder overnight. This weekend was a crazy one because we had our soccer banquet, where we celebrate the season and of course say our goodbyes to our seniors.
The best part of the banquet was the Senior Roasts, which is where we basically tease the seniors by reminiscing on funny times or giving them fake awards that poke fun at them. It was bittersweet because the seniors this year were the best seniors ever and no one can replace them...I can't imagine playing without them but I guess I better get used to it.
Before we did the roasts, Gigi Ernst really summarized how we all felt about this years' seniors and she got up and gave a really heartfelt speech about how she would miss the seniors and how she couldn't have imagined a better senior class. Then we got started on our roasting.....which for the record was not a pig roast, like Heather Neiser thought for awhile, haha.
For Ashley Roush, who I had the honor of playing next to for the past two years, JoJo and I decided to roast her and make fun of how old she was in particular. We made up some award that only she would qualify for and gave it to her. Some of the qualifications were being on the team for more than 5 years, having a lot of metal in her back, being injured several times throughout her career, being a UC graduate already, saying she was done with soccer and then coming back for another year...you get the idea.
Then we roasted Kate Norton. When roasting Kate, Neiser thought she would get a little creative. First Neiser did some research and took note that Kate had those funny shoes that are rubber and that you can slip-on almost like clogs. Since Kate doesn't like it when people litter, Neiser took the liberty of buying some of those rubber shoes and decorating them with "no-litter" signs. It was hilarious...hey, I would wear them. Then Brindle gave her some anti-bacterial soap, saying how Kate always has good hygiene...it's one of those things you don't really understand unless you're on the team I guess.
For Rachael Epps, we basically talked about how she is on the Life All-Star team. Well, we didn't say it in those words, but it is true. She is in every group imaginable and she has a leadership role in all those groups as well, haha. told a hilarious story about how they played the "name game" together at the airport one time. The "name game" is a game Chelsea and JoJo invented and have copyrighted which basically is where they pretend like they know people (who are strangers) and they'll say hey to them and then a random name (which is not likely the person's name). So they get a lot of funny responses - usually confused faces - and often times people will just say hey back and run away.
But one time at the airport they were playing it and Rae Rae asked them what they were doing, so naturally they invited her to join. On her rookie turn, they saw the perfect candidate, someone walking with an "I love " shirt on. So they opted out to not say hey to the woman, but instead shouted: "WE LOVE THE USA." She replied back them, shouting: "YooOOOo baby!" This bizarre response of course made the three start laughing until they were crying. So for her roast, Chels and Jo gave Rae Rae an "I love the " shirt.
When it was Heather Haney's turn to be roasted, I looked up and saw Nicole Sanda walking toward the front of banquet room with her hand in the air. Then I realized what she was doing and started to laugh: she was imitating how Haney would never call for the ball on the field like most of us do, instead she would raise her hand pretty much half-way in the air when she was open. So imagine seeing someone running down the field with their hand half-way in the air all the time...pretty funny.
Among other things, Gigi talked about how one time Haney and her were late for lifting at the beginning of the year with Curtis. As punishment, while the rest of us were done lifting and eating breakfast, the two of them had extra lifting with Curtis. Extra and painful, haha. I personally remember this incident because Heather Haney was one of the strongest players on the team and she could not move her arms for days. She let us know about it verbally and also when she couldn't move her arms entirely while running, so this was a funny memory to bring up.
Becky Imhoff's roasts were well-chosen. I must say, Becky has the best tackle out of anyone I have EVER played against. Playing behind her I knew that whenever she went into a tackle, she would most likely win the tackle and the other girl would be on the ground afterward. (Sort of kidding).
Nonetheless, explained to everyone how Imhoff is like a "brick wall" when it comes to tackling, and then she pulled out an actual brick and gave it to her! Another thing a lot of people don't know or expect is that Becky is the secret prankster on the team. It took me a year or so to figure this out, but she is the prankster that no one expects would have done it! It's hilarious. So Brittney talked about this a little and then gave her toilet paper and said she was "full of it," haha.
Jess Legge, our future nurse on the team, has the most distinguishable laugh ever. I will miss it so much, and not just because it is a contagious laugh but because if we didn't know where everyone was, we would just follow Legge's voice. The thing is, it is also sort of a scream. It's like a laugh/scream/yell. She was given an award with a similar title to that, and it fit her perfectly. The other awards were just about how hard of a worker she is, because she is one passionate player!!
This blog is getting really long, so if you want to read more about the roasts of Ana Farmer, Anna Barrett and Amy May check back in soon and you can read them!
