CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The University of Cincinnati tennis team edged crosstown rival Xavier, 4-3, Wednesday afternoon at the Mercy Healthplex. It was the third-straight win for the Bearcats and XU's first loss at home.
UC improved to 5-2 with the win, its first over Xavier (5-3) since 2003. The Bearcats came back from losing the doubles point to post the win.
The first two doubles matches were split. In the third match, XU's Jeanette Feider and Kate Lohner outlasted Jenny Rowen and Elizabeth Young, 8-5, to earn the point.
In singles play, the Bearcats posted a trio of straight-set wins. Hannah Hinton defeated Jackie Vilines, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1, Valeriya Dandik beat Jill Ducro, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 3 and Rowen topped Alicia Papa, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 6.
The Musketeers evened the match with wins by Kara Courtney at No. 2 and Kaitlyn Zinn at No. 5. Junior transfer Alizee Paradis clinched the win for the Bearcats, winning a three-setter over Feider, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.
UC hosts a pair of matches this weekend, playing Indianapolis on Friday, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. and West Virginia on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 4 p.m. Both matches are at Queen City Racquet Club.
