CINCINNATI, Ohio - University of Cincinnati freshman guard Deonta Vaughn scored a team-high 19 points, but Georgetown's Jeff Green scored 21 and had a tone-setting block, helping No. 12 Georgetown extend its winning streak to 10 games with a 75-65 victory over Cincinnati.
The Hoyas' (21-5, 11-2 Big East) Jonathan Wallace added 17 points, and freshman Jeremiah Rivers had consecutive 3s during the 13-point run that put Georgetown ahead to stay.
In workmanlike fashion, John Williamson totaled 15 points in 38 minutes of action. Williamson converted on 7-of-11 field goal tries and collected six caroms.
Cincinnati's (10-17, 1-12) zone defense geared up to stop Hibbert, who scored only three points in the first half and left the game with seven points and nine rebounds.
The game began well for UC. Making his first start of the season, Timmy Crowell opened the scoring with a 3-pointer off the glass to give UC a 3-0 advantage. The Bearcats made their first five 3-point shots for a 17-7 lead.
Down 5-3 early, the Bearcats ripped off a 14-4 run, highlighted with a pair of treys by Marvin Gentry, two baskets by Vaughn and a 3-pointer by Marcus Sikes. During that time, Roy Hibbert got only one shot off against a defense that double- and triple-teamed him inside.
Hibbert's bank shot for his first basket cut the lead to 26-24, and the Hoyas finally pulled ahead with a 13-point run led by a freshman reserve. Rivers hit consecutive 3s.
Sikes paced the Bearcats with seven rebounds and to go with nine points. Gentry finished with six points.
Georgetown forged a 36-31 halftime lead.
Down 42-32, Cincinnati played a little defense of its own, putting on a full-court press that forced turnovers and set up a seven-point spurt.
