CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Deonta Vaughn scored 20 points, five of them in overtime, to lead Cincinnati to a 70-67 victory over Seton Hall on Wednesday. The win came in UC's final home game of the season.
Vaughn made a 3-pointer with 3:29 left in overtime to snap a 61-61 tie and give Cincinnati (11-18, 2-13 Big East) the lead for good. He added an 18-foot jumper with 1:37 left to give Cincinnati a 68-63 lead.
In a battle of the Big East's top two freshman scoring leaders, Seton Hall's freshman Eugene Harvey led all scorers with 24 points. The Big East's leader in scoring, Harvey outdueled Vaughn who is second in the league among rookies with a 14.3 points per game average.
Brian Laing scored 18, and Jamar Nutter added 10 for the Pirates. John Garcia had 12 rebounds
John Williamson totaled 16 points for Cincinnati, and Jamual Warren added 13.
One of two Bearcat seniors playing at Fifth Third Arena for the final time, Cedric McGowan finished with eight points and nine caroms. Fellow senior Ron Allen tallied three points, two boards and blocked a shot.
Williamson scored on a putback to give Cincinnati a 59-57 lead with 43 seconds left in regulation, but Harvey forced overtime by banking in a shot at the 31.2-second mark. Vaughn lost the ball while trying to get through defenders for a possible game-winning shot in the last 10 seconds.
Vaughn, the Bearcats' leading scorer, scored nine points to help Cincinnati pull ahead 31-24 at halftime. The halftime lead was the Bearcats' first in a Big East game this season.
